Raw vs. Graded: Analyzing the True Market Value of Modern NBA Cards

To grade or not to grade? That is the ultimate hobby question. For modern NBA releases, the value multiplier between a raw card and a PSA 10 gem mint slab can be astronomical.
Take a standard base rookie card. Raw, it might sell for $20. But if it secures a PSA 10, the market value often spikes to $150 or more. However, grading carries inherent risk and cost. If that same card earns a PSA 9, it may only sell for $25 — barely covering the grading fee and shipping.
We advise collectors to rigorously pre-screen their inventory. Only submit modern cards that are perfectly centered with immaculate surfaces. For vintage cards, however, even lower grades provide vital authentication and encapsulation, protecting your investment for the long term.
